What is Morning Sickness?
Morning sickness is a condition that occurs most commonly in pregnant women wherein they feel a certain discomfort marked by a nauseous tendency and general lethargy and weakness immediately upon waking up in the morning after a night’s sleep. The name ‘morning sickness’ is in reference to the fact that this feeling of sickness usually occurs in the morning. However, it is also true that morning sickness can occur at any time of the day. It just occurs more commonly in the mornings immediately after waking up since that is the time when blood sugar is very less. This is due to 8 hours of no food during the time when you were sleeping. Of course, that is just one cause. There are various other causes as well and doctors and specialists still believe that it has not been possible to actually pin-point the exact causes for morning sickness.
If you are pregnant and/or have had a bout of morning sickness, you will know
how stressful and unbearable it can get. Sometimes you feel like as if you would
not want to carry on with the daily activities of the day at all and feel
extremely bogged down and depressed. Morning sickness is known to occur in
pregnant women typically between the fourth and the twelfth weeks of pregnancy.
It is known to usually be at its peak between the fifth and seventh weeks and
can be a really grueling experience during those times. This however is just the
normal statistic and shouldn’t be regarded as exactly true. In some cases, the
sickness might start showing signs of occurrence much earlier than the fourth
week and might last even right till the end of the pregnancy period. However,
this should not be a cause for too much concern and need not be regarded as
abnormal.
For some women there might even be intermittent morning sickness occurring every
now and then. Some others feel the carry the symptoms till about the 12th - 16th
week of pregnancy while even others suffer the sickness throughout the pregnancy
period.
Whatever be the duration, it must be noted that morning sickness is not a
dangerous thing. It is only common for pregnant mothers-to-be to experience
morning sickness and is no sign of any abnormality whatsoever.
